Let's not forget streaming services. Those are the real distribution deals these for indies days. I'd rather a film of mine go to MUBI than have some limited run at specific arthouses anyday. The audience is de-facto global and available 24/7 — not a bad deal.

If you look at the numbers, those might actually keep small films at hobby level.

Certainly not from this actor's standpoint. And MUBI is hardly a hobbyist site.

MUBI is wonderful, I did not have them in mind when I wrote my answer, just the general SVOD thing for low-budget movies.
